Funny story- I took both dogs for a walk to day...an adventure in and of itself, however today a kid about 7 or 8, full of ADHD, saw us walking in the park and ran from the church across the street (without looking either way) and straight for us. Harli is easily spooked so I was on guard for her to either charge or bolt. Luckily the kid started talking before he got to us (and didn't stop) so I talked back and that seemed to calm her a little. Anyway he came right up to Harli and petted her and let her nose him (I don't think she actually kissed him, but she did rub her face on his chin) and then he said "man what happened to his head, why does he have that thing on?" I told him his eyes were hurt and that kept him from scratching them. He got right in Herc's face and petted his head and Herc laid a big fat wet one across half the kid's face. The kid seemed to think that was cool, rather than gross. I guess the rubber bands caught his eye because he said "You have braces? How old are you?" I guess he does not yet realize that grown ups have braces too...
I can just hear the conversation with his mom tonight--"Mom, guess what I met these two dogs in the park and one had a huge cone on his head and he is 11 years old, that is really old for a dog, and he has to have surgery on his eyes, and the other one is HUGE and she almost ran me over and she is only 7 months old and then the lady she is like so-o old and she has braces! I even asked her how old she is and guess what she said...35, can you believe a lady that old would have braces? But she had cool dogs, they liked me a lot. Can we get a dog?"
So it was interesting...

On a bit of a bummer note Herc has to go to Vegas tomorrow to the Doggie Optometrist and get anesthesia and have surgery on his left eye again. It is more than our vet can fix, so we have to go down to the specialist. Poor Herc. I hope it gets him fixed right up and that he does better recovering the first day than last time, cuz last time made Jas tear up and broke my heart...but only for 1 day. I'm sure all will be well.

Here's Harli

Here's Harli's pen...and the remains of the pet bed Herc has slept on for 6 years...1 day in her pen and it is no more...
Here's Herc.
Here's Herc post eye surgery. He hates the collar!
Thankfully he is doing well and getting better each day.
He runs the collar into everything, trying to get it to come off, poor sad dog, he looks at me when I take a picture like "mama don't take a picture, its embarrassing"!

Last but not least these pics will really show how big Harli has gotten...
If Herc is in her way she will just step right over him.

Little Red Riding Hood- Century Ride 2009

Sharlie and Glen, Sandra, Bobbi and Jas and I all took a trip up to Logan last weekend so us girls could ride the Little Red Riding Hood...an all girls century.
My first 100 (103 actually) mile ride ever!

Sharlie cooked us a delicious spaghetti dinner on Friday night. It was ready right as we got there around 9pm and it saved the day, we were starving!

The boys were our "support crew", it was great to have them there to drive us and for the morale support...boy at about 90 miles in I was wishing for Jason to give me a little push from the back...there was actually a guy with one group who we saw doing that...we tried to stick with that group, but they were too fast, I blame the tag along boy!

Here we are all looking chipper at about 8am just getting ready to start the ride.
I felt so good on the ride! I was riding strong and in the lead more than I have ever been before, though they advertised it as a flat ride there were a couple of good hills and I was even strong and keeping up on those!

I was amazed at how strong I still felt at lunch, which was 61 miles in.

WE DID IT!
(pictured left to right- Me, Sharlie, Sandra, Bobbi)
(Bobbi did the 80 mile option with another friend who she had signed up with)

It took us 7 hours and 40 minutes total time start to finish...that is a long time in the saddle...but saddle sore seemed to be the only real pain. My legs were a bit fatigued and my knees were a bit achy, but no muscle soreness at all, I was amazed!

We're ready to do it again next year!

See their cute pink jerseys? Those are the ride jersey, I got one but didn't want to wear it because it is sleeveless and I was wearing my arm warmers during the ride, according to Bicycle Magazine arm warmers with a sleeveless jersey are a fashion no,no (the only one I know who can pull it off is Guy Smith...) What a switch from St. George--the weather was awesome, it rained all night Friday night, right up until about 6am, then cleared out during the ride (but stayed cloudy) and then rained again Saturday evening and Sunday. We got maybe 4 drops of rain while riding. It was about 60 degrees and the scenery was beautiful! We were on country backroads with very little traffic and surrounded by green fields, trees and mountains capped with snow. It was majestic and pristine, a truly beautiful place to ride. Thanks so much to my girlfriends for sharing the road with me!
Every day life just gets better and better!
