So, once again it has been a long time since I blogged. I miss it when I don't, though there will be a mix of some sad and some glad in this post I hope it will be tipped in the direction of glad tidings...but the bad news first...

This is my hand, this is my hand post dog fight. Herc and Harli had been starting to argue a little bit, so we were being careful to run them and keep their energy down (easier with Herc than with Harli, that dog has some ENERGY!) we were also not feeding them table scraps because the arguments seemed to center on that. On a Tuesday in August Jason went to
LV to pick up the Bean from the airport and as I was getting my shoes on to take the dogs for a walk they got into it...thankfully I was able to break them up, they were pretty stuck together, typically when fighting I could just pull Harli off and that would break it up. I couldn't pull either dog off this night. I stuck my hand between them to pull them apart (which took every ounce of strength I had, they were intent on biting each other) and one of them bit me. I didn't realize it was a good bite until I got them separated and was checking out Herc in the kitchen...then I realized that the blood all over his head was mine, not his. I must say I was a bit relieved by that, but then a little freaked out and completely STRESSED out. Seeing them fight, and so escalated so quickly was a first for me and I hope I never see another dog fight. How people could watch that for fun is inconceivable. The unfortunate result of this night was giving Harli away. Fortunately we were able to give her back to the kid who had given her to us originally, he loves her, she is an only dog, she gets to go to the river and run all the time...he sends pictures to
Jas all the time and he even brought her to Mega Pro last week--
Jas said she is enormous, like 110lbs! It was tough to adjust to her not being around, but it is better for all involved this way.

In early September
Jas and I were able to cross one of the biggies off of our
shouldacouldawoulda list! We have pulled permits to hike The Subway in Zion a few times but have always gotten rained out. This time our friend
Tawn invited us and we got to go! It was so beautiful. We had a terrific time (once it was over). The water was FREEZING! and in spots its over your head so you have to jump in and swim, it is hard to swim when you can't catch your breath, let me tell you. It was a great day though, it reminded us both that we are not much in hiking shape--8 hours--but worth every painful second. One exciting
tidbit, I almost got bit by a rattle snake. I've never seen a real live rattler before and have always wondered if I would know the sound if I heard it...well there is no mistaking it. This snake was behind a rock around a corner and I heard the rattle a split second before I heard a
hsssssstttt sound and it struck about a foot in front of me- I turned and ran as fast as I could in the opposite direction, and
Jas watched to make sure it wasn't chasing me...he (the snake) was ticked! Close as I ever want to come to that part of nature...talk about adrenaline rush. The pic above and below are both from The Subway.

This little pic is from our back yard. I want to start a garden and have been talking about it quite a bit lately. I guess the yard decided to start without me, right by the patio we have this watermelon plant growing...must be time to do that garden! I love plants and if we can grow a watermelon without even trying then I predict our garden will thrive! PS we didn't plant this, it must be from watermelon seed spitting contests in the back yard last summer. Thanks kids!
